Job summary

This post is to cover 3 x 7.5 hour (9 - 5) shifts and 1 x 5 hour (9 - 14.30) including weekends on a regular basis.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated nurse, with excellent interpersonal skills who has relevant experience of working autonomously, who wishes to develop as a specialist palliative nurse. Main duties of the job

  • Clinical - managing a caseload of patients with specialist palliative care needs with support from senior colleagues: having the opportunity to provide holistic assessments and develop individual plans of care bespoke for the patient, whilst ensuring partnership working with generalist colleagues, the patient and those important to them. To be empowered to advocate for your patient. To be able to utilise all forms of communication skills in all parts of the role to enhance care and service delivery. The post holder should have a good understanding of disease trajectory in patients with cancer and non-cancer diseases, and this post will offer the opportunity to further develop this.
  • Management - to have the opportunity to improve the service and support senior staff with business development plans. To be flexible to the needs of the service. To represent the team at meetings as required and report back to the team subsequently as well as undertaking new and different parts of the role unique to specialist nursing.
  • Education - to ensure ongoing personal development, with both formal and private study. Participate in team education and professional development sessions.
  • Audit/Clinical Governance - participate in both audit and clinical governance as required as a means to service improvement which benefits patient care. Initiate and deliver audits with senior staff. Participate in investigations from incidents and complaints as required.
