Job summary

This is an opportunity to join the expanding team within Radiotherapy Physics providing clinical scientific and physics services to the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology. The Department has a Managed Services Contract with Erga to provide a comprehensive radiotherapy service to the people of Norfolk. The radiotherapy equipment consists of five linear accelerators all with multi-leaf collimators, CBCT and electronic portal imaging, 2 CT-simulators, Eclipse treatment planning system, orthovoltage unit and Bravos High dose-rate brachytherapy after loading machine. The Department is fully electronically networked and largely paper-free.

The post holder will be expected to work shifts as part of an extended day working arrangement. Some weekend working may be required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will participate in the scientific support service provided by the Radiotherapy Physics Department to the Radiotherapy Department at the NNUH.

They will provide scientific advice to medical staff, radiographers and other health care professionals and take particular responsibility for all physics aspects related to the clinical use of IGRT and external beam quality assurance issues.

The post holder will coordinate Radiotherapy Physics resources and ensure high quality support to the Radiotherapy service for patient treatments in their specified area(s), taking responsibility for safe operation of equipment and computer systems, including accurate calibration and functioning, appropriate quality assurance.

  • To liaise with the Head of Treatment Planning to ensure day to day supervision of the physics support to the external beam treatment planning service to ensure all treatment plans are checked in a timely manner.
  • To provide scientific advice to trainee clinical scientists, radiographers and clinicians in the production and checking of treatment plans, both routine and complex, in relation to the external beam treatment planning service.

Teaching, training and Research

  • To coordinate and oversee the work of other treatment planning Physicists particularly in relation to the imaging and service.
  • To supervise and advise other Clinical Scientists and Planning Radiographers within the Radiotherapy Physics Department and to assist with their training
  • To carry out PDPs for junior staff within the Department.
  • To produce and coordinate induction and training programs for new physics staff.
