Job summary
**14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship**
We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.
You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification within the duration of the placement.
The Cardiac Cath Lab is a multidisciplinary area where Nurses, Consultants, ODPs, Radiographers and Physiologists all work closely together to provide the best experience and care possible to elective and emergency patients requiring cardiac procedures.
Staff development is a priority and as a department we offer multiple training opportunities to new starters and experienced team members during evening sessions or in protected time during our Clinical Governance days. We regularly put staff through the Training Nursing Associate training to become a band 4 within our area.

Main duties of the job
As post holder you will:
- Support the multidisciplinary team in caring for patients pre and post procedures.
- Complete regular observations post procedure escalating any concerns to a registered staff member.
- Ensure patients are eating and drinking appropriately pre and post procedure.
- Maintain excellent communication with patients during their stay in the cath lab and recovery area.
- Assisting the multidisciplinary team in completing procedures including conscious sedation, completing frequent monitoring and reassurance to patient during procedures.
- Support multidisciplinary team in maintaining excellent infection control standards within the department.
- Assisting in equipment checks and ensuring documentation on checklists is up to date.
- Ensuring cath labs and recovery area is stocked safely and efficiently to support productive working.
