Job summary
Applications are invited for a full time (10PA) replacement post for a retiring consultant based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH). We are interested in candidates that have undergone a comprehensive ear, nose and throat training and who have an interest in Paediatric Otolaryngology. A fellowship in Paediatric Otolaryngology would be desirable but not essential, since we would support development in Paediatric ENT, particularly Paediatric Otology, once in post.
The Paediatric ENT service deals with general Ear, Nose and Throat conditions and has a full range of audiological support. We provide a specialist service for rare conditions and perform surgery for choanal atresia, upper airway problems, chronic ear disease, bone anchored hearing aids and neck lumps. The new appointee will be actively involved in the investigation of neonates/children diagnosed with permanent sensorineural hearing losses arising from the neonatal hearing screening programme and will be a member of the Cleft Palate team.
The NNUH has a dedicated team of Paediatric Anaesthetists who provide support for the assessment and management of more complex children. The ENT and Anaesthetic Departments works closely with the Addenbrooke's Children's team and also with Great Ormond Street. Paediatric patients requiring complex airway surgery are referred to Addenbrookes or Great Ormond Street hospitals.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be participating in a 1 in 8 weekday on-calls, and 1 in 11 weekends on-call.
All consultants, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust's Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.
The appointee will be a member of the Consultant Staff Committee and be expected to serve on this committee.
The appointee is expected to fully participate in the delivery of the undergraduate curriculum for ENT at the University of East Anglia (UEA) School of Medicine. A clinical or basic science research role is also encouraged.
