Our expanding Cardiology department's Cardiac Cath labs comprise of 5 Cath Labs, two recovery areas and an Elective Unit. Procedures completed in the Cath Lab include coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion under sedation and GA. In addition, we run a 24/7 heart attack service which is provided out of hours on an on call basis.

We are part way through an ongoing refurbishment program to furnish us with a suite of Philips Azurion systems and have recently been granted approval to expand our capacity further, as such we need a number of additional staff.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Nurse or Radiographer to join the department with this exciting role. The role combines aspects of both Nursing and Radiographic Practice in the area as a multi skilled Cath Lab Practitioner.

You will be expected to scrub and circulate for procedures including coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion, as well as undertaking Cath Lab specific Radiographic duties in line with hospital policy.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be able to develop your skills in

  • Working in recovery completing admission checks on patients
  • Scrubbing to assist in our range of interventional and diagnostic procedures.
  • Caring for patients during procedures with conscious sedation and pain relief as required and accurately documenting this.
  • Handing over patients to the recovery team post procedure
  • Utilizing Philips Azurion and Siemens Artis x-ray equipment for Cardiac Procedures to provide imaging using principles of ALARP in line with IR(ME)R
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the role

Training and induction will be provided as well as a block of supernumerary time if required. There are regular internal and external training days available to develop skills.
