Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced individual to join our senior team and take on a full time leadership role of our ODP group in the cardiac cath lab and help support and further develop our General Anesthetic service.
Our innovative Cardiology department's Cardiac Cath labs comprise of 5 cath labs, a recovery area and an Elective Unit. Procedures completed in the cath lab include coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion. In addition we run a 24 hour heart attack service which is provided out of hours on an on call basis. Our service currently entails 5 GA sessions a week supporting complex pacing and electrophysiology procedures. We also have a fortnightly cardioversion list. This is set to increase in the future.
As a Lead ODP in the cath lab you would be integral to maintaining a safe and effective GA service, both during procedures and post procedure recovery, while also expanding your role to include scrubbing and circulating for all procedures. You would also support the lead nurse and cath lab manager in managing the department's group of ODPs, participating to all elements of their development and performance.
Supernumerary time and support would be given to develop competencies in all areas.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will be able to develop your skills in
- Running GA lists alongside multidisciplinary team
- Working in recovery admitting and recovering allocated patients, recovering patients post GA
- Scrubbing to assist in our range of interventional and diagnostic procedures.
- Caring for patients during non GA procedures with conscious sedation and pain relief as required and accurately documenting this.
- Handing over patients to the recovery team post procedure
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the GA service
- Completing PDR for junior ODPs in dept
- Contribute to co-ordinating day to day running of Cath Labs.
