Job summary

We are looking for an outstanding clinical leader to join us as Divisional Nursing Director (DND) for the Medicine Division to provide inspirational, high level professional, strategic and operational leadership, both within the organisation and across the integrated care system.

The Medicine Division is the second largest of the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals Trust's four divisions, with a budget of more than £200 million, offering tertiary specialist services as well as services for our local central Norfolk communities. There are over 2,700 members of 'Team Medicine' made up of a diverse, highly skilled workforce spanning across all staff groups. Around 1600 of these staff are Nursing and Additional Clinical Support roles, working across several specialities, sitting under the overarching responsibility of the Divisional Nursing Director.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Chief of Division, the DND works in partnership with the Chief of Division and Divisional Operations Director. These three roles, the 'Divisional Triumvirate', have operational accountability for the workforce, service delivery, clinical quality & safety, financial control, and the implementation of the NNUH and Divisional strategy. Together as a team, the Triumvirate, are responsible for defining divisional objectives to meet corporate goals and ensuring that the highest quality standards offered to every patient every time.

The DND manages Team Medicine's senior nursing teams: Senior Matrons, Matron and Specialist Nursing and Allied Health Professionals, Advanced Nurse Practitioners & ACPs and the Clinical Governance. The DND also works closely to support the Executive Director of Nursing to develop, implement and deliver the 5 year Clinical Professions, Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and the Trust wide nursing strategy, providing clear visible direction and leadership to deliver excellence in nursing across all areas of Medicine and all departments that deliver patient care.

In the role you will affect safe and appropriate placement of emergency and elective patients across each speciality ensuring patient flow that is safe, effective, and efficient of all resources, identifying potential problems in advance and developing strategies to overcome them. You must lead each specialty in the effectiveness of admissions/discharges to meet demand, providing feedback and implementing changes as required to ensure seamless patient journeys. In this role requires the individual to work with other health and social care partners to harmonise procedures and clinical pathways to reduce variation for patients. Moreover, you will collaborate with the University of East Anglia to nurture future advanced and consultant practitioner roles, to generate research to improve patient outcomes.
