Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join out nurse endoscopist team at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital NHS Foundation Trust

The Endoscopy unit at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital is the biggest and busiest unit in the country providing high quality diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, based of site in a state-of-the-art purpose-built unit with in the Quadram Institute.

The role of Nurse Endoscopist provides the opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual to deliver a professional Nurse Endoscopist service.

The successful candidate will work alongside both nursing and consultant colleagues in shaping the future direction of gastroenterology and endoscopy services.

Band 8a would be a qualified nurse endoscopist who has completed both upper and lower GI training and is working as an independent practitioner. Both full time and part time hours would be considered.

Main duties of the job

As a senior Nurse endoscopist you would be working as part of a highly skilled team providing high quality diagnostic endoscopy, working alongside Gastroenterologists, Colorectal, Upper GI surgeons and the endoscopy nursing team.

You will take an active role in training both new nurse endoscopists and clinicians in diagnostic endoscopy as part of the Eastern region endoscopy academy.

As a senior nurse endoscopist you will vet all referrals coming into the unit from both clinics and primary care for all outpatient endoscopy working closely with the endoscopy Admin managers and booking co ordinator's, ensuring that patients are booked into appropriate lists in a timely manner.

Deliver teaching as part of the faculty team on JAG accredited courses for both internal and external trainees.

Mentor and manage the training of new nurse/ clinical endoscopists at the trust and act as a role model and mentor to junior members of the NE team and nursing team

  • To provide informed consent to include possible side effects, risks and possible outcomes
  • Interpret results from endoscopic procedures and communicate these to patients and their relatives/ carers.
  • Refer patients for additional relevant tests/ procedures based on endoscopy results
  • Provide specialist knowledge to clinical colleagues, patients, relatives and carers
  • To work clinically as part of the nursing team on the unit when required
  • Effectively and professionally deal with emergency situations and debrief staff where appropriate, ensuring support is available
