Are you an experienced, enthusiastic, and Physician Associate. Are you looking to develop and further your career in a busy and expanding Emergency Department (ED)?
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital's (NNUH) ED is growing. We are looking for passionate and skilled clinicians to add to our multi-disciplinary team as a Physician Associate (PA). The ideal candidate will have experience of Emergency Medicine as a PA. Our team will help you to develop and practice to work as autonomous practitioner delivering emergency care across all areas of the ED.
The NNUH ED is led by a motivated team who are forward thinking in their approach to emergency medicine. Our ED is the busiest in the region, where no two days are the same. Our dynamic clinical and support teams are passionate about delivering high quality care to our patients, and we do this despite the challenges that are thrown our way. Please note, this role includes working a clinical pattern covering a 24/7 rota.

Main duties of the job
Whilst experience of working in emergency care is preferred, applications are welcome from newly qualified Physician Associates. All candidate must have completed the Physician Associate Postgraduate Diploma/Masters from an accredited UK university and passed the Physician Associate National Examination. Our department has a long history of training and developing non-medical decision making roles from multiple professional background. Our Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Clinical Practitioners are well established and are working across all areas of the department, minors, majors, paediatrics, ambulatory, and resus.
You will provide high-quality, patient focused, efficient and comprehensive assessment and treatment to a range of patients arriving through our doors. Alongside this you will receive professional support, training and supervision from peers, nursing colleagues, ACPS and Doctors.
The service is Consultant led and continued training will be supported externally and via in-house education and training led by the ED consultant body. The Trust and department have strong links with local HEI and we encourage our team to be involved in the education of the next generation of PAs. We encourage our staff to explore areas of interest and we look to support those interests for the benefit of our patients.

The following skills and experience will be required and are essential for the successful candidates:
- Assess and examine acute emergency department patients, present them to a senior, initiate and interpret investigations, recommend, and instigate treatment.
- Provide direct clinical care, using established clinical guidelines and exercising a high degree of autonomy. This will included referral to other relevant professionals when required
- Contribute to achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance with KPIs and performance metrics within the specialty
- Manage a caseload of patients as directed
- Perform physical examinations, order appropriate investigation, interpret finding and formulate a list of differential diagnosis
- To perform clinical interventions and diagnostic tests as the post requires once training has been given, following and applying correct Trust protocols to ensure safe practice.
- Make person centred, evidence based plans in partnership with patients and their relatives in highly sensitive situations, using skills of analysis and judgement to ensure best practice and outcomes
- To discharge patients home within own scope of competence and provide written information for community services about this episode of care and any ongoing treatment/investigations required
