Job summary

Band 7/8a progressive post (opportunity if a trainee, likely 3 year training time)

We have an exciting opportunity for this new role, to appoint an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist/ or a Trainee Advanced Practice Physiotherapist to join our Acute Medicine Team.

Physiotherapist's are a valuable tool to support the medical profession in managing the growing demand on acute care.

The role of an APP works alongside the more widespread model of Advanced Care Practitioners, whilst leveraging the unique selling points of a Physiotherapist. By integrating advanced practice assessment skills with early mobilisation and proactive re-ablement, alongside embedding a culture of 'home first' and 'discharge to assess' we have shown we can improve access to Physiotherapy assessment, alongside reduce length of stay and readmission rates.

The opportunity for a further APP to join the team allows us to get closer to our goal of building a 7-day sustainable service - increasing our reach but also helping us to further develop the role.

Full time: 37.5 hours per week; and will aim to support the weekday core hours of 8am-6pm. There will be expectation of involvement in weekend working also.

Main duties of the job

Pivotal to the identity of the role is how it sits strategically across both Medicine and Physiotherapy. Joint line management and supervision help provide a framework to a role which supports both Physiotherapy and medical capacity.

As an APP you will stay close to your roots, wearing your physiotherapy uniform - cementing your professional identity and establishing your own scope of practice. Whilst a diverse acute medical clinical skill base is essential for the role, we would welcome Physiotherapists with special interests in key clinical areas - helping us to increase the diversity and potential within our team.

The role remains connected with and embedded within our Physiotherapy department and teams and as an APP, you will be intricately involved in the leadership and development of the AMU Physiotherapy team - alongside the wider multi-professional team. Education, research and leadership are key elements of the role and you will have protected time to invest in these areas, alongside the expectation that the 4 pillars of Advanced Practice are inherently integrated into an APP's daily role.
