The renal department is unique, friendly, dynamic, and promotes clinical excellence for our nursing teams, and are offering substantive and Fixed Term opportunities for registered nurses of all experiences.There are 4 nursing teams in our department that all offer a different clinical experience.
Based at NNUH, Langley Ward offers opportunity to develop your acute care management skills and management of the sick renal inpatient, as well as experience the fast pace of the Acute Renal Service that provides 24/7 hemodialysis service.
Our Renal Home Therapy Team, based at Norfolk and Norwich Kidney Centre (NNKC) in Bowthorpe is a nurse-led, community outreach service that provides support, training, and review of approx. 80 patients that receive either Peritoneal dialysis or Hemodialysis in the comfort of their own home.
Our 'Off site' nurse-led, outpatient hemodialysis units are the Norfolk and Norwich Kidney Centre(NNKC) in Bowthorpe, Norwich, and Cromer Renal Unit at Cromer and District Hospital, Cromer.NNKC has a 36-station hemodialysis unit and is open Monday to Saturday, 06:30-22.30, providing holistic & continuous care for a patient group of almost 200 patients.
Cromer Renal Unit is a smaller satellite unit with 9 stations and mirrors the NNKC in terms of service delivery, but on a smaller scale. Their patient group is just under 60 patients.
Main duties of the job
The above are specialist areas of nursing that deliver Level 2 organ support therapy, and our departmental Clinical Education team pride themselves on providing the highest standard of support and training, with an extensive competency document to complete 'on the job' to gain the skills you require to be a specialist renal nurse.
Your main duties include:
- To work with all members of the Ward/Department clinical team within the multi-disciplinary framework.
- Maintain a high standard of patient care under the direction of the Ward/Department Sister/Charge Nurse.
- To act as a leader in the clinical area, in the absence of a more senior member of staff.
- To work in accordance with the principles laid down by the Nursing/Midwifery professional bodies and Trust Policies
- Maintain Continuous Professional Development in line with Trust Policy, the Knowledge and Skills Framework and professional bodies
- To develop practice to that of an experienced clinical practitioner with guidance from senior staff, colleagues and through the personal development review process
