Senior Mental Health Nurse

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Senior Mental Health Nurse to join the High Volume User (HVU) Service at University Hospital North Midlands (UHNM). The HVU team provides assessment and community-based support to patients who frequently attend A&E and impact hospital flow and waiting times. These individuals often present with complex physical, mental health, and social needs, requiring a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to reduce reliance on urgent care services and improve engagement with appropriate pathways. The post holder will manage a complex caseload, acting as the allocated practitioner. You will undertake comprehensive assessments, develop and implement care and risk management plans, and work collaboratively with health, mental health, social care, and community services to ensure individuals receive coordinated and effective support. You will deliver person centred interventions in patients' homes or community settings to improve outcomes and quality of life. The role includes maintaining accurate clinical records, effective communication, and acting as an advocate for service users. We are seeking a motivated, flexible, and compassionate practitioner with relevant experience and strong team working skills, committed to delivering high standards of care and upholding Trust values.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of care and for the supervision of others who are carrying out all aspects of the caring process. The post-holder will assist in setting and maintaining standards of care, will participate in maintaining effective management of the team and unit and will also maintain effective integration with the multi-disciplinary team and assist with the facilitation of a collaborative approach to patient focussed care.

The post-holder will act as a reliable role model for junior staff.

Ability to provide managerial and clinical leadership. Ability to have overall 24-hour responsibility for the clinical area and MDT team. Ability to delegate. Ability to induct any staff member to the area with confidence. Sound experience in area applied for or experience in an equivalent area. Ability to tackle staff management issues, i.e. complaints and disciplinary issues. Motivated and innovative. Setting, monitoring and maintaining standards, ensuring high standards. Able to monitor staff performance and undertake PRs/action to redress poor performance. Ability to formulate and implement new ideas.
