Job summary

Forensic Liaison Partnership Team - Assistant Psychologist - Band 4 - 2 year fixed term contract

We are excited to launch our brand-new Forensic Liaison Partnership Team within the NSCHT Mental Health Rehabilitation pathway.We are looking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist on a 2 year fixed term basis, to play a key role in the development of this innovative service. We aim to produce a highly skilled team who will support service users transitioning from secure care into the community.

This is a rare and fantastic opportunity to be part of an evolving team that will strengthen the interface between the forensic mental health service and community mental health teams. The Forensic Liaison Partnership team will work to support safe and effective transitions between services and provide support to non-forensic community teams and service users in reducing the risk of readmission to secure care.

The service will be co-produced by accessing peer mentors and lived experience practitioners and carers for advice and consultation.

Main duties of the job

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of people within the Forensic Liaison Service.

To provide psychological assessment, formulation and brief psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with the qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Under the clinical supervision of a qualified psychologist, undertakes assessments of psychological status and function, personality, beliefs, attitudes, behaviour, emotional function, other relevant psychological characteristics and dimensions and factors relevant to the development, maintenance and understanding of the young persons difficulties, using standardised psychometric instruments, protocol based assessment tools, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and structured and semi-structured interviews as required. Utilises assessment techniques directly with clients and collects information from family members and others involved in the young persons care as appropriate.

2. Assists qualified psychologists in the scoring, analysis, interpretation and reporting of psychological assessments undertaken with clients and others to support the formulation of a clients difficulties.

3. Under the clinical supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, assists in the formulation of the young persons difficulties and in the planning and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of the young persons difficulties in community and in-patient/residential settings.

4. Under the clinical supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, delivers brief therapeutic interventions developed or guided by the qualified psychologist or otherwise defined by protocol, for individual young people and for families. This may include DBT-informed (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) and NVR-informed (Non-Violent Resistance) work.

5. As per service need, under the clinical supervision of a qualified psychologist, assists in the planning, development, co-ordination and delivery of therapeutic groups, including for example group approaches for young people and their families to the management of anxiety, or emotional regulation group interventions. Acts as co-therapist with qualified psychologist or other designated clinician and as appropriate runs group in accordance with agreed protocol.

6. When completing clinical duties, receives, obtains and communicates complex and sensitive clinical and personal information, sometimes in circumstances where there may be constraints on the motivation, cooperation, understanding or acceptance of the young people involved or their families
