Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Principal Psychologist to work in our Mental Health Liaison Team. Direct clinical work for the role will be within the Mental Health Liaison Team based at Royal Stoke University Hospital.

This post is available at 0.8 WTE (30 hours). The Trust supports agile working & the ability to work from home part of the time can be facilitated alongside flexible start & finish times.

The successful applicant will work alongside a friendly & psychologically-minded team of nurses/ANP, social workers and consultant psychiatrists based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. The team currently holds Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network accreditation. The post will be supported by a permanent 1WTE Assistant Psychologist.

Furthermore, the post holder will be a member of the Acute & Urgent Care (A&UC) psychology service, based at the Harplands Hospital, comprised of psychological professionals working into our three acute adult wards, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, Crisis Care Centre & two Older Persons wards offering ample opportunities for peer support.

Main duties of the job

Provides highly specialist psychological assessment of clients with highly complex conditions based on the appropriate use, interpretation & integration of data from a variety of sources.

Formulates plans for highly specialist psychological work &/or management of clients' mental health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework & evidence-based practice. Negotiates the implementation of such plans with clients &/or their carers.

Implements the use of highly skilled psychological formulations for individual clients, carers, staff, families & groups, adjusting & refining psychological formulations as required.

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees Evidence of continuing professional development
