The Head of Estates leads on operational management and strategic development of the Trust's Estate. The role has overall responsibility for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the Trust's Estates function to appropriate standards and specifications so that it achieves its strategic and operational objectives and delivers the Trust's commitment to be outstanding in all it does.The role leads on ensuring that all repairs and maintenance works are carried out to the highest professional standards, and provide complaint, safe, quality, timely, cost effective and customer focussed outcomes in line with local policy and legal responsibilities.You will provide specialist and professional expertise. Identifying and advising the Associate Director of Estates and Capital on improving and developing the Estates function so that it remains responsive to internal and external demands, is consistently patient focussed and fully supports future strategic and operational service delivery needs as the Trust responds to new challenges and opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Leadership

  1. Be a positive role model for team members through effective leadership and guidance, ensuring that they consistently deliver the requirements of the Trust's CARE core values, statutory and regulatory obligations.2. Engage positively with them and ensure they are supported and encouraged to perform to consistently high standards, deploying appropriate leadership and coaching techniques.3. Provide specialist Estates, maintenance and construction advice and information to clinical leads, project teams, and operational and corporate Directors.4. Carry out appraisals and one to ones for direct reports, ensure they are aware of their objectives and how they should be effectively delivered. Ensure other line managers carry out appraisals and one to ones for their team members. Ensure timely action is taken to address the outcomes of all appraisals.5. Enhance capability within the Estates team by ensuring personal development needs are regularly reviewed. Ensure identified development needs are met, including providing or arranging coaching for team members when required.6. Ensure team members are aware of and adhere to HR policies and procedures, including sickness, disciplinary and performance management. Ensure that these are applied consistently and fairly. Address any grievances and disciplinary matters within policy guidelines.

In conjunction with the the Estates Manager (Contracts), ensure contractors are sourced and appointed in accordance with procurement guidelines. Ensure allocation of work and quality of outputs are monitored to ensure value for money and customer satisfaction.9. Carry out personal site visits and inspections to monitor quality of work and seek feedback from other service managers.10. Lead on delivery of key capital projects and oversee effective delivery of projects by other team members.11. Lead on the Estates elements of change programmes to ensure achievable service delivery timescales, giving direction and guidance on Estates issues, when working to tight deadlines and budgets.12. Qualifications

Essential

  • Master Level qualification in Estates related discipline
  • Leadership / Management qualification (minimum Level 5) or equivalent experience
  • Authorised person for one or more of asbestos/electrical/lifts/ventilation/gas
  • Commitment to continued personal and professional development
  • Experience of managing complex Estates/Maintenance teams, delivering multiple construction repairs or refurbishment projects
  • Experience of letting contracts and working with contractors, costs and specifications
  • Experience of providing expert and specialist advice at a senior level on Estates matters in accordance with policy and statutory requirements
  • Understanding health and safety policies, procedures and systems in an Estates setting
