Main duties of the job

  • Receiving goods from suppliers/ carriers, which include manually unloading supply vehicles in all weather conditions, as required.
  • Check goods received and deal with any discrepancies. Input the information onto the computerised stock management system or distribute non-stock receipts to end-users.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the ward 'top up system' in order to support the day-to-day operation of the Trust assisting in the compilation of orders, for goods held in store with Ward/ Department staff to ensure that their stock levels are realistic and workable.
  • Maintaining the data on the computerised stock management system and ensuring data is up to date and correct.
  • Pick, pack and distribute ordered stores to wards/ departments promptly. This is undertaken on a regular daily basis and entails lifting and transporting by hand in cages and sometimes awkward loads, in all weather conditions throughout the shift.
  • Deal with enquiries from wards/ departments and ensure that their problems are solved to their satisfaction where possible. Referring any unsolved problems to the Deputy Materials Manager as soon as practicable.
  • Process ad hoc orders from ward staff in a speedy and efficient manner.
  • In the situation of stock shortages, advise on alternative products and prioritise stock delivery to maintain ward services.
  • Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive Stores Service to all wards and departments of the George Eliot Hospital on site.
