We are currently seeking two full timers.
We are seeking a Band 3 HCSW to join our busy Urology Department.
We are a very busy Urology Out-Patient department covering a wide range of clinics, diagnostic procedures, treatments and local anaesthetic procedures including Perineal Prostate Biopsy and flexible cystoscopy Trial Without Catheter Clinics and Flow Clinics. You will be expected to cover administrative and clerical duties, including maintain stock levels, responding to patient queries and making appointments. Limited extended roles may be required to support the Urology Nurse team.
We currently run a 5 day service (Mon- Fri), however future development to a 7 day service is expected in the future so the successful candidates would need to be able to work flexibly.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role will be to support the day to day running of the unit. This entails providing support to the nursing staff with the running of the diagnostic procedures, undertaking clerical work, maintaining stock, making appointments working personally with patients and helping to maintain a high standard of care, cleanliness and safety within the CDC and Urology unit. It will involve working with multi-disciplinary teams and having the ability to develop effective relationships outside of our team to ensure a smooth effective journey for the patients.

Assist in the care of patients each shift under the supervision of a registered nurse delivering personal and clinical care to include:
- Patient chaperone
Assist in the delivery of clinical care and associated activities in line with appropriate standards and guidelines.
Document care in patients records and ensure countersigned by a registered nurse.
To use accurate, clear and concise documentation written or electronically.
Use personal effectiveness and knowledge to contribute to the development and delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective service
Within the remit of your role and under supervision contribute to the planning and completion of holistic assessment.
Liaise and work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team understanding their roles.
Anticipate the needs of the patients to ensure comfort, safety and dignity at all times.
Maintain all aspects of confidentiality regarding patients, relatives and colleagues.
Have a responsibility for the tidiness and promoting cleanliness of patient areas, including equipment, assessment rooms, storerooms, and take appropriate care of furniture.
Ensure patient trolleys, examination couches are properly cleaned between patient use

With appropriate training the Clinical Support Worker will gain skills, knowledge and competence to undertake / perform the following:-
To undertake, record, document and report the following as appropriate to the clinical area
- Temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturations
- Completion of NEWS documentation and escalate and report results to appropriate registered nurse / practitioner
- Patientrack o Blood sugar recordings obtained by capillary sampling.
- To ensure the appropriate monitoring of fluid balance charts.
- Removal of urinal catheters and collection of specimens
- Venepuncture
- Cannulation
- ECG
- Blood collection
- Able to undertake bladder scanning.
Communication Skills
To work as a member of the Urology Team establishing effective communication across the multi-disciplinary team and departments across the Trust and with patient and carers
To establish professional relationships with patient and carers, communicating in ways which respect views, beliefs and culture and being aware of own response to distressing circumstances.
To report to the senior nurse on duty in a timely way giving information relating to all work activity and identifying significant changes in relation to direct patient care and treatment plans.
To act as a patient advocate.
To have an awareness of triggers and processes for incident reporting, safeguarding concerns and wider governance issues and be able to escalate to the Senior Nurse on duty.
Education, Training and Information:
To maintain professional standards in agreed range of clinical and non-clinical activities specific to the Surgical Assessment Unit, maintaining and updating skills and knowledge as per Trust policy
To work at all times within the boundaries of competence, at no time undertaking activities that have not been previously agreed
