Melly ward is a 26 bedded medical ward, covering specialities of Cardiology, Endocrinology, Haematology predominately alongside general medicine.

We are a busy and friendly unit, open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Our shift times are 07:30-20:00, 19:30-08:00, 07:30-15:30, occasionally there may be late shifts available which are 12:00-20:00

We currently have one vacancy for a Band 3 Clinical aide/healthcare support worker to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to be able to further develop skills and work within a skilled fast-paced team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the nursing and multi-disciplinary team in the day-to-day provision of patient care under the supervision of the registered nurses / practitioner.

To practice in accordance with Trusts policies, guidelines, procedures and standards, and work within the boundaries of the role and assessed competencies.

It is anticipated that this role will continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge, and competencies to be determined within the clinical teams.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturations
  • Completion of NEWS documentation and escalate and report results to appropriate registered nurse / practitioner
  • Patient rack
  • Blood sugar recordings obtained by capillary sampling
  • Completing & totalling 24-hour fluid balance charts and assisting in continence management
  • Removal of urinal catheters
  • Venepuncture
  • ECG
  • Blood collection
  • Remove wound dressings under the supervision of the registered practitioner and reapply a basic dressing using aseptic/ANTT (note: - excluding cavity wounds, diabetic wounds, or grade 3 pressure ulcers)
  • Care of a patient with a nasogastric tube or PEG tube in situ (must not aspirate the tube or commence any enteral feeding regime)
  • Act as a companion to transfer to other wards, departments and hospitals following discussion/mutual agreement between the post holder and registered practitioner in charge of the ward
  • Prepare and maintain environments for clinical procedures to be carried out
  • Support patients before, during and after clinical procedures, treatments, and investigations

  • oKnowledge and experience of providing person centered care
  • oKnowledge and understanding of the 6C's of nursing
