Main duties of the job
We are looking for enthusiastic motivated individuals to join our team in Women's and Children's at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. As a Maternity Healthcare Assistant (MHCA) you will support the midwives whilst working on in all areas of maternity, to deliver high quality, safe and compassionate care.
Duties will include assisting in labour ward, antenatal clinics and the antenatal and postnatal wards. You will work as a member of the maternity team by supporting the midwifery staff and assisting the care needs of women and their babies.
Maternity health care assistants work alongside registered practitioners and other members of the maternity care team who provide direct delivery of care to women and their families accessing hospital based services.
Applicants must be able to work effectively within a team, demonstrating an ability to adapt to the change in accordance with the need of the organisation and professional innovation

- General housekeeping
- Prepare (including cleaning) the clinical area.
- Management of blood spillage.
- Clean and make beds.
- Re-stock and reorder equipment including stock rotation.
- Sterilize feeding equipment.
- Prepare equipment such as ultrasound.
- Identify and report faulty equipment.
- Undertake hospital transfer, the discharge process and tasks such as data input.
- Input and retrieve data into and from computer systems, for example, test results, contact details and discharge information.
