Main duties of the job

Integrated Sexual Health Receptionist

Main duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome patient attending the Integrated Sexual Health Service and register onto the clinical system.
  • Take responsibility for making appointments for patients and having to prioritise according to patients' symptoms etc. (triage), rescheduling and cancelling of appointments to the ISHS
  • Rostered shifts will require rotation into the central call centre and covering reception duties across all of the ISH clinics, including outreach clinics.
  • Typing various correspondence on a daily basis from audio and handwritten e.g. clinic letters, discharge summaries, appointment reminder letter, general office duties for Multi- disciplinary ISHS
  • Liaise with patients over the telephone when working in the central ISH call centre or when covering clinic reception and face-to-face dealing with any queries in a sympathetic and efficient manner finding out relevant information from various
  • Use the clinical system of the clinic to retrieve and search for patient
  • Liaise with secretaries, consultants and their teams at both the ISHS clinics and other hospitals.
  • Requisition office stationery required by the ISHS Multi-disciplinary

  • To be able to work on your own under pressure and take responsibility with regard to patient care in the Integrated Sexual Health Department.
  • Reception and documentation of all cases.
  • To work with Integrated Sexual Health Service computer system, Lilie and other appropriate systems in accordance with Date Protection Act.
  • To deal with aggressive and abusive patients as necessary.
  • To show compassion towards upset patients and directing them to appropriate private area, informing nursing staff of their arrival.
  • To inform the nursing staff of any relevant urgent cases, eg. Vulnerable patients.
  • Deal with enquiries, both by telephone and in person, taking appropriate action and ensuring that confidentiality or personal health data is maintained.
  • Be available to assist with patients who are unwell in the waiting area, eg providing vomit bowls etc and be available with regard to cleaning the appropriate soiled area

  • Educated to at least GCSE standard (including Math's/English).
  • Administration experience from working in an office environment.
  • NVQ level two in Administration of Customer Care or equivalent experience.

  • Typing/word processing to RSA level 11 or equivalent.

  • Experience of working in a busy office or reception.
  • Experience of working with the public.
