Lead Pharmacy Technician - Procurement

Job summary
The role provides operational leadership and coordination of technical services within the Procurement and Distribution departments. It supports patient care and contributes to Trust savings through expert procurement practices contributing to service improvement and staff development. The post holder will manage the day-to-day operations, supervise and train technical staff and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and procedures and standard operating procedures.
There will also be operational commitment to the Pharmacy service weekends and Bank Holidays on a formal rota (currently 1:6). (ROTATION FREQUENCY SUBJECT TO CHANGE)
Main duties of the job
- To provide and coordinate pharmacy services within the procurement and distribution departments.
- To supervise and assess support staff, ensuring training is delivered and competence maintained.
- To maintain and develop SOPsto reflect current legislation and practice, ensuring all Procurement staff are trained and compliant in their use.
- Provide expert guidanceon medicines procurement and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver efficient, cost-effective, and patient-focused services.
- To ensure proper storage and handling of medicines, including temperature control, expiry rotation, and safe disposal, in line with regulatory standards.
- To lead and manage medicine recalls, risk assessments, and implementation of risk-reducing measures to maintain patient safety and service continuity.To oversee procurement and distribution of new medicinesto support evolving service needs, including Homecare and pre-labelled packs, while mitigating supply risks.
- To liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, and external agenciesto negotiate and secure safe, efficient, and value-based procurement solutions, often involving complex or sensitive issues.
- To collaborate with and support Homecare service delivery, including complaint handling and coordination with the Homecare team.
