The Specialist Nurse Advisor Safeguarding Children supports the Safeguarding Children Team within Wye Valley NHS Trust to prevent harm and promote the welfare of children, young people, and families. The role involves providing specialist advice, training, and supervision across all Trust services, contributing to governance processes, and leading safeguarding initiatives across both Community andAcute services.

Main duties of the job
The Specialist Nurse Advisor for Safeguarding Children provides advanced expertise to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, and families. The role ensures the Trust fulfils its statutory duties under Section 11 and that children remain central to all safeguarding decisions.
The post holder manages highly complex and sensitive safeguarding information, offering expert advice on child maltreatment, exploitation, contextual safeguarding, domestic abuse, and Think Family approaches. They work closely with Children's Social Care, HSCP partners, and wider agencies to interpret health information, support assessments, inform risk management, and improve the quality of safeguarding practice.
A significant part of the role involves supporting the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), including covering the MASH Health Practitioner role during peaks in demand. Responsibilities include contributing to forums such as GETSAFE and MARAC.
The post holder delivers safeguarding training, supervision, and expert advice across the Trust, supporting staff to develop their confidence and competence.
Leadership responsibilities include representing the Trust at safeguarding and community safety groups, and deputising for the Named Nurse. The role is grounded in NMC professional standards, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development
