Specialty Doctor in Community Paediatrics

Job summary

As part of an expansion of the service, we wish to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Community Child Health. Wye Valley NHS Trust is committed providing first class care to the children and families of Herefordshire.

The posts are based at the Child Development Centre in the City of Hereford, there may be some peripheral clinics in county's special schools.

A good background in Paediatrics is essential, with a minimum of 6 months experience in the NHS. We would welcome special interests to complement the team, for example, autism, neurodisability, ADHD, safeguarding, are welcomed and the opportunity exists for on-the-job development of special interests.

There is no on-call commitment with this post.

Main duties of the job

  • Clinical responsibilities will be adjusted to meet expertise, with appropriate supervision, and may include:

-Provision of clinics for Statutory Health Assessments for Children in Care

- Provision of neurodevelopmental clinics/ completion of ASD assessments

- Provision of clinics in one of the county's special needs schools

- Provision of general clinics

- Provision of clinics to provide medical advice to education

  • Equal admin to clinical time is allocated, e.g. a four hour clinic will have four hours of admin timetabled
  • SPA allocation of 1 PA per week with possibility of additional time
  • 1 PA of DCC to be agreed within the job plan per week to cover activities as required e.g.:

- Multi-agency meetings (Team around the Child; child protection conferences, etc.)

- Nursery and school visits

- Multidisciplinary meetings for children with complex needs

- Any clinical admin undertaken as a result of delivering any of the above clinical activities

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full registration with a doctors GMC
  • Demonstrates a commitment to Continuing Professional Development

Desirable

  • Higher degree, e.g. MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or other higher degree
  • DCH, DCCH, or other relevant diplomas

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • To be eligible for a "Specialty Doctor" post you need at least 4 years of post graduate medical experience since obtaining your primary qualification. Of those 4 or more years, at least 2 years must be in paediatrics [ this can be within a training programme or in a non training/SAS role ]
  • Minimum 6 months of NHS experience.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to prioritise clinical needs and manage time effectively
  • Aware of own limitations and know when to consult senior colleagues
  • Understand the importance of working effectively in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to demonstrate relevant general Paediatrics experience

  • Community Paediatric Outpatient clinical experience
  • Experience in child safeguarding, development disorders and/ or neurodisability
