Job summary
To work as a member of the cardiac investigations team providing a clinical cardiac service in a safe and responsible manner under the direction of the cardiac physiologists.
Consideration will be given to applicants who do not hold a:
Society for Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST) Electrocardiogram (ECG) Certificate or a BLS/ECG qualification
but have other relevant experience
For such candidates, a developmental opportunity at Band 3 will be considered, with a view to development to a fully qualified Assistant Cardiac Practitioner
A development plan will be provided.
Main duties of the job
- To integrate within the larger multidisciplinary team for cardiology ensuring information is appropriately communicated when required within the remit of the job role.
- To perform and record a range of non-invasive diagnostic procedures without direct supervision i.e.12 Lead ECG (Electrocardiogram), Ambulatory ECG monitor fitting and removal, Blood Pressure Monitoring, ensuring accuracy is at the forefront of the work and escalating key indicators to supervisor.
- Provide a high standard of patient care at all times, ensuring patients are communicated with and understand the procedural requirements in relation to the non-invasive diagnostic procedures.
- Recognise waveforms and measurements of the normal and abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) and when to escalate to a senior physiologist.
- To give the patients clear instructions and advice relating to the procedure, including but not limited to, the period of monitoring, care of the equipment, documenting of activity and symptoms throughout the monitoring period utilising patient diary arrangements.
- Ensure accurate record keeping within the departmental electronic system and forward any hard copies to the requesting specialist.
- Assess and monitor the patient condition during procedures ensuring any changes in line with the Deteriorating Patient Procedures are escalated immediately to the relevant senior staff member.
