Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse to join our friendly and progressive Ophthalmology Department and Ophthalmology Theatres at Wye Valley NHS Trust.
As a Band 6 Junior Sister, you will play a key role in supporting the Senior Sister in leading, developing, and coordinating a multidisciplinary team across both outpatient and theatre environments. You will provide visible leadership, ensure high standards of patient care, and promote a culture that reflects our Trust values and the Wye Valley Leadership Charter -- putting people first, working together, striving for excellence, and showing compassion, accountability, respect, and improvement in everything we do.
This is a varied and rewarding role that blends clinical expertise with team leadership and service development. You will be instrumental in ensuring our patients receive safe, effective and compassionate ophthalmic care, while supporting the continuous growth and wellbeing of the nursing & support team.
Main duties of the job

Provide visible and supportive leadership to nursing and support staff within Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology Theatres.

Ensure safe, efficient and compassionate care delivery, promoting best practice in infection prevention and patient safety.

Support staff through clinical supervision, mentorship, and appraisals, fostering a culture of learning and accountability.

Assist in coordinating theatre lists and outpatient clinics, ensuring effective patient flow and use of resources.

Contribute to quality improvement, clinical audit and service development initiatives.

Deputise for the Senior Sister, maintaining oversight of staffing, governance and operational activity.

Role model the Trust's values and Leadership Charter, promoting teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement.
