The Theatre Logistics Team Leader will oversee the procurement, supply, storage, and coordination of medical supplies, surgical instrumentation, and sterile consumables required to support safe and effective patient care within the operating department. The post holder will lead and supervise the Theatre Logistics Team (TLT), ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, timely resolution of supply chain issues, and efficient stock management. They will act as the department's subject matter expert in procurement and logistics, working closely with the Operating Department Manager to maintain service continuity and drive cost savings.

Main duties of the job

This role is pivotal to ensuring the operating department has the right equipment, instruments, and consumables available when needed, minimising disruption to surgical services. The Theatre Logistics Team Leader is responsible for:

  • Managing and developing the Theatre Logistics Team, including line management duties such as appraisals, training, and performance support.

  • Coordinating procurement processes--sourcing quotations, placing orders, and monitoring supplier performance to ensure timely delivery and best value.

  • Overseeing the management of stock systems (including Omnicell), stock rotation, and maintaining accurate inventory records.

  • Acting as the key liaison point for suppliers, external CSSD providers, and internal stakeholders, resolving supply and equipment issues quickly and effectively.

  • Supporting departmental projects, audits, and initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain compliance with theatre and organisational policies.

  • Ensuring the consistent availability of surgical instrumentation and consumables to enable both planned and emergency procedures.

  • Possess or willing to work towards CIPS level 4 (diploma) in Procurement and Supply
