The Oncology Clinical Scheduler is a key member of the Macmillan Renton Unit (MRU) team, responsible for the effective coordination of oncology and haematology clinics. The post holder works independently within clearly defined procedures, managing their own workload to ensure timely delivery of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) and associated patient appointments.
This role supports the delivery of high quality, person centred care by maintaining accurate scheduling systems, optimising clinic capacity and liaising with multi-disciplinary teams. Operating with minimal supervision, the scheduler will demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and strong organisational and communication skills to ensure that clinic actively runs safely and efficiently.
Main duties of the job
- Coordinate and manage the scheduling of all oncology and haematology clinic appointments within MRU.
- Oversee processes that support comprehensive and efficient scheduling to maximise clinic utilisation and minimise delays.
- To maintain and manage TRAK for the use of scheduling of all oncology treatment clinic lists and the provision of information.
- Maintain chemoschedule and ensure all treatments for patients are booked within the allocated time frame; escalate any scheduling concerns regarding any treatments or interventions required in Macmillan Renton Unit.
- Ensure patients referred for SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer treatment), receive all relevant written and verbal information and are booked for a Pre-SACT appointment with the registered nursing team.
- Act as the primary contact for the coordinating Clinic bookings, treatment and SACT planning for Oncology and Haematology patients within Macmillan Renton Unit.
- To communicate effectively and professionally, with patients, carers and colleagues, often discussing complex or sensitive information such as treatment schedules, test results or changes to appointments. Use tact, reassurance, and clear explanations to support understanding, especially when there may be distress, anxiety or barriers such as confusion of language.
- Request blood tests on MAXIMS and send forms to patients as required.
