Job summary

Due to the current post holder retiring after 20 yrs as Clinical Director, Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation, we are looking for an ambitious, forward thinking, and innovative pharmacist to provide strategic leadership and direction to for our 130 committed pharmacy staff at Wye Valley NHS Trust.

As well as providing expert pharmaceutical advice to the multidisciplinary teams within the Trust, this role is pivotal to collaborating across the Herefordshire Health economy to ensure the safe, effective and efficient use of medicines to maximise the benefit of the Herefordshire NHS pound.

At a wider level this post will work closely with neighbouring organisations within the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Integrated Care System to ensure seamless pharmaceutical care for our patients, including

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Herefordshire & Worcestershire Health & Care Trust, Taurus Healthcare, Community Pharmacy Herefordshire & Worcestershire and the ICB.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be employed by Wye Valley NHS Trust. The Clinical Director will be the executive within Pharmacy with responsibility for pharmacy services and associated Medicines Optimisation Standards Trust-wide.

  • Provide specialist expertise, and, delegated from the Chief Executive via the Chief Medical Officer, have legal and corporate responsibility across the Trust for Medicines Optimisation. This includes associated Care Quality Commission Standards, other performance management requirements, the Medicines Act 1968 and Misuse of Drugs legislation.
  • Be responsible for the provision and management of the Pharmaceutical Service and Medicines Optimisation to ensure the services provided are progressive, responsive and efficient.
  • Be responsible for the provision and management of the Pharmaceutical Services provided by the Trust, including professional leadership and advice. Responsibility for this role will be to the Associate Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Support Division
  • The post holder will be the Trust Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer for this role
  • To enable the post holder to fulfil these roles and responsibilities across the Trust he/she will be a member of the Trust's Quality Committee.
  • The post holder will additionally provide effective, visible, leadership and professional guidance for non-medical and nursing staff working across professional boundaries within the divisions.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level/equivalent professional qualification supplemented by training to master level or equivalent experience
  • GPhC registered Pharmacist
  • Post registration clinical diploma or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Postgraduate level management qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development (specifically revalidation with the GPhC)
