Job summary

We are keen to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated part time band 6 Audiologist to work within our friendly, busy Audiology Department at Hereford County Hospital.

The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team of ENT medical staff, Clinical Scientist, Audiologists, Hearing Therapists and an Assistant Audiologist. The Department provides a comprehensive audiological service for adults, paediatrics, balance and tinnitus. You will be based at Hereford County Hospital and also several sites around the County of Herefordshire, therefore you must be willing to travel between sites for clinics, when required.

We are striving to deliver excellence in patient care - therefore the successful candidate will have Audiological experience in assessment and habilitation, as well as routine adult audiological work; involving hearing aid fittings, reviews, reassessment, repairs and ENT clinics. Some experience of advanced diagnostic tests such as ABR, CERA/ASSR and Balance Assessments would be an advantage.

A willingness to undertake further training is essential; in house training and full clinical supervision will be supported by the Department.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an experienced qualified Audiologist who will undertake a full range of diagnostic clinical tests and hearing aid work including direct referrals, hearing aid fittings, reassessments, follow ups and repairs, these may include activities that are complex and non-routine, and providing care plans where required.

The work will involve a significant degree of responsibility and will require the ability to communicate verbally or through an interpreter complex and sensitive information.

The post holder will work with the Head of Audiology to ensure that Clinical and Professional standards are maintained at all times.

  • BSc or MSc (Audiology), BAAT parts I or II or a recognised equivalent
  • State registered with Health Professionals Council, or equivalent (e.g. RCCP)

  • Ability to take histories and counsel these patients regarding management options and prognosis for their hearing loss
  • Audiological objective and subjective assessment of patients with complex requirements
  • Analysis of test results to establish most appropriate care plans if necessary in conjunction with other professionals
  • Taking accurate aural impressions, fitting hearing aids and measuring their performance in situ with probe microphones
  • Ability to maintain concentration in order to obtain accurate results throughout busy clinics
  • Ability to deal appropriately with angry, frustrated or distressed individuals whose behaviour may be challenging, aggressive or abusive

  • A range of experience to include post qualification experience
  • Evidence and of working in an Adult Audiology service to MHAS guidelines and a broad skills base in this field
