Job summary
The purpose of this job is to provide an efficient service for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, testing and commissioning of medical and surgical equipment used within all departments of Wye Valley NHS Trust as directed by the EBME and MEL Manager.
Main duties of the job
- To be professionally and technically competent to work autonomously in the role of Specialist Medical Engineer and to be able to work as part of the Medical Engineering team.
- To calibrate and maintain medical equipment and devices for use in patient care.
- To analyse and diagnose faults in complex, multi-faceted, delicate medical equipment that may be used on distressed patients, and then to carry out repairs.
- To support the Trust in ensuring that service is provided to agreed standards and meets with current legislation and policies.
- To make financial based and risk based decisions about the viability of equipment, and to have the authority to withdraw equipment from service.
- To requisition repairs and parts (including stock control) and to check deliveries and repairs against orders.
- To acceptance test new, trial and loan medical equipment.
- To process official DoH safety, action and hazard notices.
- To reduce the risks of using medical equipment, in line with current Health and Safety and other relevant policies.
- To plan one's workload, including the prioritising of repair requests.
- To be responsible for medical equipment maintenance records and for investigating incidents involving medical equipment.
- To comply with and actively take part in the development of the departmental procedures and quality systems
