Job summary

This exciting post will join the Bladder and Bowel Health team who are passionate about delivering holistic support within the community setting, to maximise the child or young person's independence and quality of life with bladder and bowel dysfunction.

The Paediatric team support patients from the age of 4 years old up to the age of 18 years old across Herefordshire; providing support to the adult team as required.

You will use both local and national guidelines to perform continence assessments for children and young people with bladder and/or bowel symptoms in a variety of settings including school, community and clinic settings.

You will have continuing responsibility for the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of health care programmes for children and young people.

You will develop excellent working relationships with the wider multi-disciplinary team including community children's nurses, health visitors, school nurses, education, social care and allied health professionals.

You will provide Bladder and Bowel education and training and act as a resource on matters relating to paediatric continence.

Main duties of the job

Act as an independent practitioner and be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work.To provide education and training for WVT and external staff on the management of paediatric continence problems and use of continence products.To help to develop policies and procedures for WVT on the management of continence problems and use of continence products.To work autonomously to provide bladder and bowel health advice to children and their families and carers in community clinics, the patients' own home, schools, residential care homes and acute hospital settings.Use specialist skills to interpret bladder and bowel charts accurately in order to identify patient problems and implement effective treatment.To undertake clinical procedures, investigations or interventions competently whilst maintaining a safe, dignified and confidential environment.Work closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team including the GP, school nurses, social care, health visitors, paediatricians, urologists. Communicate effectively in a variety of ways and always in a timely manner.To have an excellent understanding and knowledge of current local and national guidelines and policies about the management of paediatric bladder and bowel conditions and act as a source of knowledge for the multidisciplinary team.To work flexibly within the Bladder + Bowel Health Team to cover the work of colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads.

  • NMC/HCPC registered
