Come and join the Geriatric department in Hereford!

Our new purpose built frailty block is open comprising 3 wards (Garway - Frailty Assessment Unit and Frailty SDEC, Dinmore - Orthogeriatric trauma unit and Ashgrove - general geriatrics). In addition to the inpatient workload we provide cover of the front door frailty team and community hospitals and undertake specialty clinics.

We are a small, friendly department, understanding the balance of working for the NHS and life outside work, be that caring for children or others.

We are seeking to recruit one full-time Consultant in Geriatric Medicine (10 PAs) to support the delivery of direct clinic contact to frailty patients. Development of specialist interests will be encouraged.

This post will participate in the overnight medical on-call rota on a 1:13 basis Monday to Thursdays only, daytime on calls are provided by the Acute Medicine department until 8pm. This is done from home. Specialty weekend working will be incorporated into the job plan with Saturday and Sunday working (8-5) on 1 in 6 weekends.

Candidates are encouraged to visit/contact us and discuss the post with prospective colleagues.

Main duties of the job

This post involves inpatient responsibilities for Geriatric Medicine in addition to sub specialty work (outpatients/community hospital input/front door frailty) with appropriate time for clinical administration and SPAs. The job plan in the attached job description is an indicative illustration only and can be discussed and adjusted to suit the successful applicant's special interest.
