Associate Specialist in Dermatology with focus on Surgery and Skin cancer - full and part time available

Because of this the Trust is actively investing in developing our team and facilities including a brand new onsite bespoke surgical unit with three operating rooms within our existing unit.

Main duties of the job
We are seeking to recruit an Associate Specialist. Desire to develop specialist interests and other skills will be encouraged and facilitated.
As an Associate Specialist you would mainly focus on diagnosing and treating skin cancer.
We have regular educational meetings including dermatopathology, complex cases and audit and education afternoons, skin cancer MDTs. We have a regular teaching timetable of medical students and GP trainee.

About us
The Department has close links with dermatology departments in surrounding counties and Wales. We have excellent relationships and work closely with other specialities at the trust such as plastic surgery, ENT, rheumatology, acute medicine and with our primary care colleagues as we all strive for excellent dermatological care for our patients. We are at an extremely exciting time with developments afoot within our department for bespoke surgical and outpatient facilities at our Gaol street site.
In addition to our consultant staff, our clinical team includes 4 associate specialist dermatology doctors, 5 clinical nurse specialists covering inflammatory dermatoses, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, skin cancer and paediatrics.

We are interested in a doctor who has appropriate surgical training, experience and skills who wishes to work within our dermatology team. The doctors previous role may have been in secondary or primary care. The main focus of this post would be performing surgery on patients with skin cancer, under local anaesthetic in an outpatient setting. Outpatient clinics assessing new and follow up patients with skin cancer/lesions would be present and developed. Regular attendance at the skin cancer MDT would be part of the job plan as may be some Teledermatology as the post develops. The department prides itself in having a range of health care professionals from various backgrounds delivering excellent skin cancer care to our patients in our new and bespoke department. The Dermatology department receives just over 4000 referrals each year (1450 2 week waits, 1550 urgent and 1000 routines) of which just over 2000 require biopsy and/or surgical intervention. The follow up activity results in around 9000 outpatient appointments. The surgical component is delivered by a combination of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Associate specialist Doctors and Consultants. This post is to complement the above with complex skin surgery that can be accommodated in an outpatient setting.
