Job summary

The Deputy Chief Pharmacist, together with the Clinical Director of Pharmacy will provide strategic management and be accountable for the delivery of a safe, high quality, clinical and cost-effective Pharmacy service for Wye Valley Trust including our external partners (One Herefordshire Pharmacy).The post holder will provide professional leadership and deputise for the Clinical Director of Pharmacy when required to do so.

The Deputy Chief Pharmacist will measurably drive service improvements in quality and safety whilst ensuring effective budget control and cost improvement. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring an effective governance structure that delivers reporting and assurance evidence to the relevant committees and Trust Board. In-line with the modernisation agenda and the Trust's strategic objectives, the post holder will support the implementation of service transformation initiatives and continual service developments.

Main duties of the job

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • To lead on the implementation and evaluation of long-term strategies, operational policies and standards for all pharmacy services provided within the Trust in line with the requirements of NHS, Integrated Care System, One Herefordshire Partnership and Wye Valley NHS Trust priorities.
  • To provide effective and enabling leadership across teams and contribute to the culture of leadership promoting equality and the value of diversity adhering to Trust Values.
  • To represent the Trust at external networks, influencing, contributing to and maintaining awareness of national and regional pharmacy strategies, policies, standards and changes in political agendas within the Herefordshire & Worcestershire ICB, Regional Pharmacy Networks, and any other relevant networks.
  • To line manage senior staff, undertake and manage formal disciplinary, grievance and sickness absence procedures in particular where the issues are more sensitive, complex or high risk.
  • To ensure the performance of all staff is regularly appraised by managers, objectives set and PDPs developed in line with the cultural goal, values and standards of the department and Trust.
  • Promote equality, diversity and Human Rights in working practices by developing and maintaining positive working relationships, ensuring that colleagues are treated fairly and contributing to developing equality of opportunity and outcomes in working practices.
