Job summary
An opportunity has arisen in Cancer Services to support the delivery of the national Cancer Waiting Times objectives.
The successful applicant will be responsible for booking appointments for patients referred on a Urgent Suspected Cancer Pathway. This is in line with national targets. The post holder will be required to undertake various admin duties associated with the referral and booking processes within the Cancer Referral Centre. This will include all administrative procedures and documentation associated with a patient's attendance at the Trust.
The applicant will be responsible for ensuring timely management and booking of referrals in line with the Urgent Suspected Cancer standard. The role is required to work closely with the operational service ensuring that patients pathways are expedited as required.
The post holder will be required to liaise with and advise General Practitioners, Hospital Consultants, other specialist staff and patients in connection with the Referral Centre appointment system.
The post holder will be required to work within a busy office environment and provide cover in the absence of other colleagues. The role involves using multiple hospital systems, including PAS, ICE and Somerset.
The post holder is expected to cover other team members during periods of absence and increased activity.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for managing Urgent Suspected Cancer referrals and cancer tertiary referrals in accordance with national and local guidelines.
The post holder will be required to liaise with GPs, other Trusts, Consultants & Clinical Nurse Specialists to ensure that referrals are processed appropriately and in a timely manner,
The post holder will be responsible for accepting/ rejecting tertiary referrals in line with national and local guidance; ensuring that imaging and histology slides are available and that patients are registered on Somerset.
