Job summary

Are you a newly qualified or experienced band 5 Speech and Language Therapist?

We are passionate about staff development and have a well established senior team.

This rotational position and excellent NQP programme supports continuing development in multiple areas and would suit a newly qualified therapist or an experienced band 5. We have established management and peer support for those with more experience. Our rotations include acute stroke, outpatients, community including stroke and general acute. Initially with a focus on embedding communication skills the service then moves on to develop and support skills in dysphagia.

The adult service has a wealth of experience with teams in the areas of critical care, acute stroke, acute inpatients, rehab, head and neck and voice, community stroke, CNRT and community.

We have access to instrumental dysphagia assessment, a supportive admin team, embedded supervision, and support structures for both professional development and wellbeing. We benefit from being part of a large SLT service which includes children's services allowing opportunities for cross-service development projects. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is a teaching organisation and CPD is both well supported and actively encouraged. There is very strong AHP leadership and opportunities to participate in research.

Main duties of the job

To provide a Speech and Language Therapy expertise to adults with acquired communication difficulties commensurate with experience and training.

To work with adults with dysphagia commensurate with experience and training.

To manage a defined Speech and Language Therapy caseload independently.

To participate in the development and delivery of training to others.

To supervise Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioners, volunteers and students.

To communicate complex condition related information from assessment to clients, carers, families, multidisciplinary team members and other professionals

To work closely with clients, carers, families and multidisciplinary team members to ensure decision making relevant to client management

To be responsible for assessment, differential diagnosis, formulation of treatment plans, writing assessment reports, providing appropriate intervention and evaluation of treatment outcomes for each individual client in respect of communication and/or and swallowing difficulties with access to a senior colleague.
