Undertakes managerial and administrative tasks for the department.
Budget holder for the department.
Reports on urgent in-patient investigations during the absence of the Consultant Neurophysiologist as per agreed Standard Operating Procedure.
Undertakes unsupervised clinical Neurophysiological tests on patients to aid in clinical diagnosis: interpretsresults and provides factual reports.
Undertakes unsupervised specialist and advanced clinical neurophysiological investigations and procedures to aid clinical diagnosis, interprets results and provides factual reports and advises clinicians.
Produced reports for issuing to referring clinicians on normal EEGs, normal and abnormal upper limbnerve conduction studies and normal lower limb nerve conduction studies as per departmental guidelinesand verifies reports on the above produced by other clinical physiologists and clinical scientists.
Undertakes clinical supervision and training for trainee staff, trainee doctors and other professionals.
Participates in regular clinical audit and undertakes research and development.
Represents the department at various internal and external meetings including regional Heads of
Department meetings, Education meetings, Governance meetings etc

Main duties of the job
General duties
To observe and uphold local fire, health and safety, infection prevention and first aid with regard to patients, careres and colleagues in line with the trust and Divisional governance procedures. To be lead for all ofthese matters.
To observe and uphold all safeguarding issues with regard to patients, carers and colleagues in line with the Trust and clinical governance procedures.
To be aware of own schedule for any given day, ensure the smooth running of the department and can adapt when the need arises.
To report on various in-patient and out-patient investigations to deal with suggestions, comments and complaints in line with Trust policy and procedures.
To communicate and liaise with other medical professionals from both within the Trust and other outside
Organisations.
To maintain the confidentiality of all patient data and information at all times.
To be responsible for the comfort and safety of patients, carers, visitors and members of staff during their visit to the department.
Ensure that communication with the patient, carers and family is maintained at all times during theirDepartmental visit.
Keep up to date with mandatory training across the department.
Be willing to undertake further professional development and attend appropriate meetings and courses as required.

Scientific duties
To perform a wide range of neurophysiology investigations on both inpatients and outpatients, adapting where necessary the technique and to accommodate clinical state of the patient (psychological, emotional and aggressive behaviours, and the degree of patient co-operation (such as intellectualdisabilities, challenging behaviours and neurodiversity).
To assist the consultant neurophysiologists in their EMG clinics.
To gain written and verbal consent for procedures performed.
To gain written consent for the use of ambulatory/telemetry equipment and consequences due to loss or damage of this equipment.
To offer advice to patients on leaving the department if they are found to be photosensitive toreduce the risk of further epileptic seizures
To advise patients of the necessary precautions to take following sleep deprivation to reduce the risk of further seizures.
To provide verbal and written information regarding the after effects of sedation prior to the patient leaving the department following a sedation EEG.
Explain the after effects and side effects of EMG investigation including for patients on blood thinners and advice on what to do in an emergency.
To work within departmental policies and procedures but have the ability to adapt working practices to perform accurate and reliable investigations under pressure and at speed should an emergency or need arise.
To have the ability to adjust parameters and settings of equipment to reflect recording conditions and difficulties.
