Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioner - Children's

Job summary

Band 3 - Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioner (Children) full-time, permanent, term-time only.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioner with experience working with children and young people (CYP). This role will be focused on delivering programmes with CYP that have been devised by Speech and Language Therapists (SLT). You will work 1:1 with the CYP along with demonstrating and supporting staff/parents to continue with carrying out the tasks.

You will work under the direction of qualified SLTs and will be responsible for liaising with families, schools and settings to organise appointments. You will also be responsible for recording activities and liaising with the SLTs as to how the child is progressing. You will be well supported by a robust leadership structure.

The Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioners sit within a wider children's service with access to a wealth of experience and support.

We also benefit from being part of a large Speech and Language Therapy service which includes adults' services.

Main duties of the job

To work with supervision and support from the Head of Speech and Language Therapy Services for children and young people.

To work under the direction and supervision of Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs).

To develop knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders.

To develop knowledge of Speech and Language Therapy and other agency provision to meet individual client's needs.

To assist the Speech and Language Therapy team in providing intervention for children and young people with communication and/or eating and drinking difficulties.

To work on a 1:1 basis with clients.

To carry out Speech and Language Therapy activities directly with individual clients following programmes agreed with the SLTs and demonstrate techniques to others involved in their care.

To update the SLT regarding the client's response to therapy.

To record client contacts in clinical records and information systems.

To record progress made within intervention programmes.
