Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for managing and expanding the Technical Training program and Personal Development program for Clinical Engineering; directorship, leadership, support, and development of the Clinical Engineering apprenticeship program and developing facilities to deliver expert training and promoting departmental career opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to provide day to day management of the recently implemented in house Technical Training Needs Analysis program (Tech TNA) to include all aspects of assessment and classification of technical training requirements for new devices, the training database and provision for supporting and managing staff through a wide range of training and educational programs.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting and managing all staff through all training and education programs including further development of these programs.

he post holder will together with the individuals Section Head, manage the development of all Clinical Engineering staff.

The post holder will be required to further develop contact with local education providers to promote MPCE as a career option, this will be through job fairs and career open days.

The post holder will be required to manage recruitment and selection for apprentices and Annex 21 trainee posts and provide directorship, leadership and support for the departmental apprenticeship program and operate as a training officer in partnership with education providers.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have overarching responsibilities for review and update in line with BSI ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System requirements and legislation, monitoring/audit of local procedures/processes relating to the Tech TNA handbook (CESOP-41) and related practice.

The post holder will lead with the provision for assessment and classification of the technical training requirements of new device models.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the Clinical Engineering Technical Training database ensuring all stored data is current and secure.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting and managing all staff through all training and education programs. The post holder will be responsible for further development of and up take of these programs.

The post holder will together with the individuals Section Head, manage the development of all Clinical Engineering staff, utilising in house training, device specific manufacturer training, local college/university courses and related workplace and/or device specific competency assessments where technically qualified.

The post holder will be required to support annual technical competency assessments for the Clinical Engineering Department defined in the departments Technical Training Handbook (Clinical Engineering Standard Operation Procedure 41). The post holder will need to be able to display significant technical knowledge and knowledge of working procedures over a wide range of medical devices when implementing these assessments.

The post holder will be required to manage training and improvement plans for staff when identified and in line with procedures included in CESOP-41. This will include where appropriate the implementation of Trust Capability Policy HR19 and Disciplinary Policy HR03.

The post holder will participate in governance related activities associated to the main duties and responsibilities of the post holder.

The post holder will be required to further develop contact with local education providers to promote MPCE as a career option, this will be through job fairs and career open days.

The post holder will be required to manage recruitment and selection for apprentice and Annex 21 trainee posts.

The post holder will lead on Departmental initiative to expand training schemes to support Departmental growth, structural and/or succession plans including management of related business cases to develop services around training

The post holder will be required to operate as a Training Officer (or equivalent) in partnership with education providers and trainees/apprentices in collaboration with appropriate technical experts in the department.

The post holder will provide mentorship of trainees/apprentices.

The post holder will have oversight of the completion of apprenticeship logbooks including the provision for regular and ongoing apprentice feedback meetings to include technical training sessions to support academic learning.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and managing personalised development programmes for Clinical Engineering staff.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying and maintaining quality initiatives in Clinical Engineering directly relating to training.

The post holder will be responsible for the development of facilities to deliver expert training to internal and external stakeholders and associated revenue streams.

The post holder will explore the feasibility of developing a Clinical Engineering Training hub as an income generation service offering medical device technical training and clinical end user training to other NHS Trusts.

The post holder will at times participate in the recruitment of Clinical Technologists as required.
