Job summary

The chronic kidney disease and transplant team here, at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust looks after out patients who have chronic kidney disease and are being prepared for dialysis or conservative care, or are post kidney transplant .

Main duties of the job

You will be required to deliver a high standard of care and demonstrate the ability to work using your own initiative. Applicants should have a positive attitude, and an enthusiastic approach to work within a clinical environment. Good communication skills are essential in order to work closely with the multidisciplinary team, as well as communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and or carers.

You will work alongside a specialist nursing team, looking after patients with chronic kidney disease and patients who are post kidney transplant.

Job responsibilities

Assisting the specialist nurses within the department to run clinics which are either nurse led or multidisciplinary for both the CKD and Transplant Teams. They will also assist the administrative staff with any clerical jobs such as collecting or taking post and filing. They will answer the telephone and take messages if required.

The HCA role consists of taking patient observations and testing patient urine during clinics for the specialist nurse clinics and consultant clinics to ensure the clinics run in a timely manner.

Ensures the department is kept clean and tidy between clinics and checks stock levels

for ordering supplies and fetch stock if needed.

Take urgent bloods to the labs and will take or collect prescriptions from pharmacy.

Escort patients to other departments.

Provide sandwiches and make drinks for patients if required.

Assist with patients mobilising if required.

Assist with personal care if needed.

Meet and greet patients and visitors to the department and ensure the nursing

team know the patient has arrived.
