Job summary

A great opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to support the operation of risk management and safety systems within our clinical divisions. You will be responsible for facilitating local delivery of quality and safety processes in line with the Trust Integrated Assurance strategy and policies. You will ensure the provision and appropriate use of risk management and safety information, compliance with CQC and other national standards, as well as ensuring investigation and improvement outcomes are enabled. You will be responsible for the coordination, facilitation and management of several Assurance work streams across the Divisions.

A sound appreciation of governance/assurance drivers on a national scale and their application within a healthcare trust would provide a necessary foundation for this role. Excellent time management skills are required to manage a busy workload and a flexible approach will be required to coincide with the accessibility of healthcare professionals. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential.

Main duties of the job

The Governance Team Leader will be responsible for supporting specified Directorates with operational delivery of the Trust's Assurance Strategy. The post holder will be expected to provide multidisciplinary staff with the skills and support to effectively implement the principles and practice of governance/assurance in all settings, clinical and non-clinical.

To be responsible for providing information analysis, project management of local Directorate Governance and quality improvement programmes including risk management (e.g. risk register supervision and scrutiny), learning lessons (e.g. from incidents, claims and complaints), clinical audit, compliance with accreditation standards (e.g. CQC outcomes and National standards ). The post holder will achieve this through the leadership of a number of Band 5 Governance Facilitators.

  • To facilitate and co-ordinate a rolling programme of governance/assurance projects, audits and review of information based on local directorate and specialty priorities in accordance with the Trust strategy and relevant national requirements. This may include work related to CQC assessments and accreditation, implementation and monitoring of systems related to NICE guidance's and Royal College guidance.
  • To provide supervision and coordination of team activities to achieve effective implementation of the Trust and Directorate assurance work programme.
  • Support the identification of changes in clinical practice resulting from governance/assurance activities in collaboration with the clinical multidisciplinary team.
  • To undertake training and education programmes on governance/assurance for health professionals within the Directorates in accordance with the Trusts Assurance strategy and implementation plans

  • To ensure that Directorates have a rolling annual programme of prioritised audit which is directed by both local and national requirements, and to provide support in its completion
  • To oversee the operation and maintenance of trust systems such as Datix, NICE database, SharePoint and clinical audit database to ensure accurate and efficient information and reports are available/produced
  • To compile and present reports / presentations on Directorates progress to relevant divisional ans Trust level groups as requested.
