Job summary

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Higher Level Support Practitioner. You will have extensive experience of working with Speech and Language Therapy with adult patients with communication and swallowing needs. This role will be focused on carrying out work devised by Speech and Language Therapists. You will work 1:1, demonstrating and supporting other staff and families to continue with carrying out the tasks.

You will work under the direction of qualified Speech and Language Therapists and will be responsible for liaising with adult patients, families and the wider multi-disciplinary team. You will also be responsible for recording activities and liaising with the Speech and Language Therapists. You will be well supported by a robust leadership structure.

You will also hold responsibilities as delegated by the Head of Adult SLT such as organising and running meetings for the wider SLT Support Practitioner Team.

The Speech and Language Therapy Higher Level Support Practitioners sit within a wider adult service with access to a wealth of experience and support.

We also benefit from being part of a large Speech and Language Therapy service which includes children's services.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to:

o Assist in providing a service to adults with communication and/or feeding difficulties as delegated to and supervised by Speech and Language Therapists. Any direct work undertaken by the Speech and Language Therapy Higher Level Support Practitioner will be part of a total treatment plan devised by the Speech and Language Therapist. The Speech and Language Therapy Higher Level Support Practitioner will undertake the specified activities listed in the job description and will take some responsibility for his or her own workload within a broad framework laid down by the Speech and Language Therapists. The Speech and Language Therapist is responsible for the Speech and Language Therapy Higher Level Support Practitioner's work and the welfare of clients.

o Support with team meetings, training and development of SLT Support Practitioners.

o Provide support to the team working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team and contributing positively to the delivery of high-quality compassionate care.

o Take responsibility for specified areas as delegated by Head of Service

o Uphold the fundamental standards of safety and quality always putting the patients first and protecting them from harm.

o Demonstrate the values of the NHS and commitment to personal and professional development.
