Senior Clinical Fellow - Dermatology

Job summary

The post holder will be working with a team of Consultants, Specialist Trainees, Specialty Doctors and Clinical Fellows. In addition the post holder will have an agreed experience in the specialty of their choice including outpatient clinics, ward cover, specialist in-patient reviews and procedures, audit and research. The precise role within each team and the proportion of clinical time spent between the two components would depend on previous experience and qualifications of the candidate and the specialty chosen.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in the dermatology department, being an integral member of the der team. This will include out-patient clinics and procedure lists and can include training/ experience in all aspects of dermatology as agreed between the post holder and the department. The role will also support the Dermatology Ward Referral rota.

To observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trusts Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions. These policies and procedures have been drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinicalmatters.

To take responsibility for your own Health & Safety complying with any safe working arrangements, policies and procedures which are in place.

To comply with all Trust requirements of appraisal, assessment and of the proposed medical training programme as stipulated by the programme leads.

To compete Trust general and local induction.

To work appropriately and effectively within your clinical team within the limits of your competency under clinical and educational supervision.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, and commensurate with your grade, to play a full part in the supervision and support of other members of your team including more junior medical staff .

In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department and to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

In conjunction with colleagues, to play a full part in the rota for the department and to provide cover for colleagues in respect of periods of leave and, under agreed circumstances, to be available to provide emergency cover.

To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

Any other duties as agreed to be appropriate.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • >3 years of general medical experience
  • GMC Registered

Desirable

  • MRCP
  • Other basic degree, e.g. BSc, Honours or undergraduate distinction

Experience

  • 2 years of post-qualification experience
  • Management of acute and chronic general medical diseases under supervision

Desirable

  • Up to date ALS or ATLS Certificate
  • Attainment of the UK Foundation Programme or an equivalent level of experience
  • Senior Fellows will have 6 months experience in the chosen specialty minimum to ST1/2
