Job summary

Applications are invited from motivated and enthusiastic individuals who can support the development and management of a core group of Imaging Assistants within the Radiology service at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

You will provide comprehensive and efficient supervision of a team of imaging assistants within the Radiology Departments at both New Cross hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.

Successful applicants will deputise in the absence of the Support Team Leader, reporting any escalations to the head of operational Radiology. You ensure that the continuity of the service is maintained in the absence of the service lead.

Working as a key member of the team within Radiology, you will provide operational & supervisory support and assist the Support Team Leader with the day-to-day line management of the Imaging Assistants.

The post holder will be required to demonstrate a significant level of initiative in organising their own workload and that of others. This might be in response to unexpected situations such as sickness or increased service demands at short notice.

You should have previous experience in workforce management and leadership and be willing to undertake additional learning required to meet the expectations of the role.

Main duties of the job

To assist with the day-to-day operational supervision of the defined team within the department.

  • To communicate effectively with the Support Team Leader to ensure the most efficient service is delivered and maintained.
  • To support and monitor the Imaging Assistants E Roster to ensure service areas are covered at all times, approving staff annual leave in line with rotas and organising appropriate cover throughout service areas.
  • To co-ordinate staff throughout the department, ensuring an efficient skill mix.
  • To manage staff sickness in accordance with the Trust's Sickness Policy, monitoring and exploring reasons for absence in a supportive manner, submitting Occupational Health referrals .
  • Develop and promote a positive culture within the department enabling continuous quality and service improvement.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Create and keep up-to-date confidential personnel files for all Radiology Imaging Assistants.
  • To be actively involved in new starter Local Inductions, competency assessments and monitoring progress.
  • Conduct staff appraisals and highlighting development and training needs with action plans.
  • To respond in a professional and sensitive manner when dealing with confidential issues with colleagues.
  • To organise regular team meetings, formulating action plans and cascade information to members of the team in a timely manner.
