Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within CRN West Midlands for an experienced Project Support Officer to support the Delivery Support Team. The post holder will need to manage multiple projects for the team and will also be responsible for the management of the administration functions and processes within the service and will have line management responsibility of administration staff within the team. The ideal candidate will have an enthusiastic, proactive and friendly attitude with the ability to address challenging situations. You will need to be able to prioritise and organise your workload and to respond to sometimes complex changes in service delivery. As a result, applicants must have excellent communication skills, be proficient in digital tools for stakeholder engagement, accuracy and attention to detail. Proven analytical skills with the ability to problem solve would be required for this post. Significant experience working for a busy and dynamic team, with proven project management skills are also required. The post holder will work within the West Midlands region. Occasional travel around the WM region will be required to support meetings across the region but the post will predominantly be working from home.

Main duties of the job

The Project Support Officer forms part of the Delivery Support Team in the Clinical Research Network (CRN) West Midlands. The post holder will be responsible for the provision and development of a comprehensive service to the Delivery Support Team (DST) and will work as part of the DST acting as a source of advice and guidance regarding the Network and its work streams.They should demonstrate exceptional project management skills, be effective senior administrators with responsibility for line management and have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. They are required to provide experience and skills in NHS clinical research management and governance, and in project management. S/he will ensure that the CRN West Midlands DST provides a high quality service in order to ensure effective delivery of the critical business support operations of the network. The post holder will be required to make informed decisions and solve issues within the area of responsibility, ensuring that agreed targets are met in accordance with Departmental, Trust and National standards, policies, procedures and local objectives. A high degree of initiative will be essential.

Project Management

  • To lead on and contribute to specific projects as required to tight deadlines across the DST on a day-to-day basis, including but not limited to issue resolution, progress reporting, variance reporting, risk appraisals, budget monitoring and on-schedule achievement of project deliverables.

  • Support the DST in compiling and maintaining internal Standard Operating Procedures. Continuous review of monitoring systems, policies & procedures which look at quality and efficiency to meet the needs of the service
  • To create, develop and maintain good office systems and processes, including the establishment of appropriate paper and software based records systems
  • Senior administrative tasks including, but not limited to, recording minutes, maintaining the appointments diary for key DST staff, responsibility for organising meetings and make appropriate arrangements, auditing local administrative procedures, DSE assessments and ensuring equipment meets health and safety requirements
