An exciting opportunity to join the CRN West Midlands has arisen where we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated individual as a Senior Research Pharmacy Clinical Trials Facilitator. The CRN is responsible for the set-up, feasibility, performance and delivery of the NIHR Research portfolio across the region
We are looking for a GPhC registered pharmacy technician with extensive experience in the delivery of clinical trials who holds a current GCP certificate. The postholder will develop, manage and lead a service of pharmacy professionals to deliver and support clinical trials working across the CRN WM footprint including Staffordshire, Shropshire, Birmingham and Black Country, Warwickshire, Coventry and Herefordshire.
The postholder will be working with Integrated Care Systems (ICS) and Integrated Care Boards (ICB), and manage a team supporting various organisations to deliver research, including NHS Trusts, General Practitioners, pharmacies, schools, hospices, care homes, prisons and other wider care settings.

Main duties of the job
CRN West Midlands works across a wide range of health and care organisations including GP and other primary care services, community pharmacies, care homes, hospices, schools, prisons, Local Authorities and third sector providers, as well as NHS Trusts. We are always striving to improve access to research and thus improvements in care for the population of the West Midlands in addition to maintaining the successful delivery of research within our NHS organisations, we are aiming to increase the research available to those using and providing social care and public health services in our region.
The post-holder is responsible for leading on all aspects of pharmaceutical input to clinical trials in accordance with the Medicines for Human use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004, the Research Governance Framework, the principles of GCP, the Data Protection Act 1998, and other local and national policies and procedures as applicable for clinical trials.

Research delivery
- To line manage and coordinate the activity of the Pharmacy clinical trials team members i.e. research facilitators in the CRN West Midlands, ensuring high quality standards are maintained and national targets are achieved
- Support the Assistant Research Delivery Managers with the overall management of NIHR CRN portfolio studies by developing robust and effective project plans to manage the delivery of complex, large-scale research project work closely with the CRN WM pharmacy Clinical trials team to support delivery of clinical trials across the CRN WM in particular encouraging participation in clinical trials and research and overcoming any pharmacy related blocks to implementation.
- To assist with the implementation of new Pharmacy Clinical Trial Initiatives as these are rolled out
- Support several areas of work concurrently with the assigned project or programme and manage competing demands. Establish and ensure robust processes are in place to deliver research studies as directed and in line with CRN guidelines
- To oversee the work of the CRN WM Clinical Trials Pharmacy team structure, maintaining oversight of work requests and engagement with Partner Organisations.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with other local network staff performing similar roles, to meet the CRN WM aim of increasing implement an effective and successful Pharmacy Clinical trial strategy to ensure successful recruitment Establish effective working relationship with external stakeholders by acting as the main point of communications for research teams, Partner Organisations, managers, nursing and other medical staff in addition to local and national organisations necessary to the function of the CRN
- Develop practical recruitment strategies, for example, format of site visits and production of promotional materials will be the responsibility of the post-holder
- Identify barriers to participation in trials and develop strategies to overcome these barriers and increase research participation
- Maintain a working knowledge of current legislation and regulatory frameworks applicable to health research, as well as relevant NHS and University research and information governance policies and procedures, to provide advice and support to the team of research facilitators on requirements designed to protect the research subject and ensure the quality of each study
- Meet study management needs through effective understanding and negotiation with partner organisations
