Job summary
We are inviting professional and flexible applicants to support our laboratories across the Black Country with Medical Laboratory Assistant duties. This will be to work in ANY department across the BCPS, including Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Cellular Pathology, Hematology etc NOT JUST MICROBIOLGY
This role is most suitable for applicants with flexibility in when and where they can work across the above mentioned sites. Applicants with restricted availability and travel restraints will be less likely to be successfully provided placements.
Working hours will be various and likely to be between 08:00 until 22:00 - dependent on department, some however work on a 24/7 basis, so applicant will need to be able to work all shifts in a 24/7 working pattern. Work will be assigned by placements rather than on an ad hoc basis due to the need to train staff on systems relevant for the site and the type of work.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role will be dependent on the department allocated, however Bank MLA's can expect to provide a support function in reception duties, cleaning of the laboratory, data entry and disinfectants.

Job responsibilities
Processing diagnostic specimens.
Provide practical training in procedures within own area for new staff.
Undertake laboratory specimen reception duties; sorting specimens and request forms in an orderly and efficient manner;
Cleaning and disinfection of laboratory materials and equipment;
Replenishing stocks of laboratory consumables;
Safe disposal of laboratory waste;
Operation of automated sample-processing and sterilization equipment requiring regular physical effort;
Maintenance of certain laboratory instruments and updating quality control records and referring any inconsistencies to supervisors e.g. Biomedical Scientists;
To accept and unload deliveries from suppliers.
Other duties as required by department sections.
Training will be given for use of laboratory information management systems asnecessary.
Input of patient data and retrieval of patients results will be required.
To undertake data entry of patient demographics and acceptance of electronic requests onto the laboratory computer system.
Communication with colleagues and medical staff to convey in information which may include patients results of a complex and sensitive nature.
