Job summary

This is a full-time post for a Consultant in Adult and Paediatric Spinal Surgery based at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This opportunity is due to the creation of a new post.

The Spinal Surgery department sits within the Specialist Directorate of RJAH. We are looking to appoint a consultant who can help the trust to develop sub specialist areas within the Spine Department which will help it maintain and enhance its status as a Specialist Provider in the NHS.

We would be keen to appoint candidates who wish to have a combined clinical and academic job and encourage them to pursue a MSc or PhD. We would be happy to facilitate such an appointment through our strong links with Keele University.

Main duties of the job

The Trust is looking to appoint a candidate who can add new and advanced surgical skills to the existing spinal department or with someone who has a track record in research and help in providing an axis point for clinical and academic research in the Centre of Spinal Disorders.

Essential

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma and Orthopaedics via: CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview, CESR or European Community Rights
  • FRCS (Tr&Orth) - or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in all aspects of adult degenerative and paediatric spinal surgery through complex spinal fellowship

Desirable

  • Exposure and ability to perform advanced surgical techniques related to adult and paediatric spinal surgery.
  • Experience or exposure to latest MIS spine surgery techniques including navigation/robotics

Audit, Teaching and Research

Essential

  • Understanding of principles of audit
  • Evidence of strong commitment to training and support of junior colleagues
  • Good track record of research publications

Desirable

  • Recent publications in the field of adult spinal surgery
