Job summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, conscientious, self-motivated individual to join our logistics team within the Supplies Department

Our Logistics Assistants provide a support service to the Trust which includes the movement of patients either on beds, wheelchairs or special trolleys, between departments, and also movement of hospital equipment. The role also provides receipt and distribution activities within Supplies.

Under current Home Office Immigration Rules, this role does not meet the UK Visas and Immigration criteria and the position is not therefore eligible for sponsorship. Applications from candidates that require skilled worker sponsorship will NOT be shortlisted.

Main duties of the job

To provide a Logistics service to meet the needs of the wards and departments and to ensure that materials, equipment and waste are safely and appropriately receipted and distributed around the Hospital.

The post holder will be required to hold a valid current driving licence for the operation of the waste truck when removing waste, and driving the delivery van.

The Logistics Assistants provide an efficient and reliable collection, sorting and delivery service of letters, parcels and medical records within the organisation and processing items going outside the trust for collection by Royal Mail and District Transport Services.

The role also requires electronic data capture when undertaking stock-takes, to ensure correct and agreed stock levels are maintained.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Assist in the movement of patients either on beds, wheelchairs or special trolleys, between departments.

2. Check Patients wrist band matches X Ray request card) prior to taking patient to X Ray.

3. To operate a computer terminal:- Inputting data,- Producing information displays and printouts as required

4. To undertake duties associated with Receipt and Distribution activitiesincluding:- Contacting customers and preparing data for input- Resolving customer queries and enquiries- Filing

5. Movement of hospital equipment and stores as requested.

6. Stand in for driver when they are on annual leave / sick to provide transportation, via delivery van, of post, specimens to RSH and collection of post and specimens from four GP surgeries.

7. To accept and assist with weekly delivery of medical gases and changeover/ exchange of cylinders on wards, MIU and other areas as required.

8. Assist in the removal of contaminated laundry including countersigning when waste has been transferred from Trust premises to the waste contractor and disposal of all waste from all areas of the hospital, including confidential waste and clinical waste.

9. Unsupervised removal of waste to the compound by operation of the waste truck on a rota basis, and operation of the waste compacter of the truck.

10. Frequent pushing and pulling of 100kg waste bins (with wheels), (54kg is the empty weight of the waste bins,) onto the tail of the waste truck and delivery truck.

11. Preparation (ie waste segregation to ensure non-recyclables are not included) of recyclable waste for routine recycling collection

12. Report defective equipment and needs for repair to the manager or supervisor.

13. Being part of the emergency response team, attending medical emergencies in a supporting role.

14. Respond to major incidents and emergency situations as instructed.

Physical Skills

1. Pushing, pulling and maneuvering trolleys, wheel chairs, beds, driving a waste truck and delivery estate vehicle, as well as lifting full boxes of mail to and from roll cages sing appropriate moving equipment.

2. Assist patients on and off trolleys, beds, furniture and vehicles.

3. Frequently loading and unloading dirty linen bags, over 15kg, on and off van tail lift loading and unloading of all general waste and transferring them from the van via the van tail lift to the compactor.

4. Loading and unloading general supplies, furniture and general hospital equipment in and out of vehicles.

5. Assist in preparing meeting rooms by moving tables, chairs and electronic equipment, ensuring layout and equipment is set up as requested and clearing the away upon completion.

6. Assist in the delivery and collection of food trolleys and provisions to and from the wards using appropriate moving equipment.

7. Assist in the movement of deceased to the mortuary.

8. The handling and transport of patients valuables to wards via pre-sealed boxes. E.g. personal clothing, bags, phones, wallets and large loose items such as laptops

Equipment Use1. The post holder is required to hold a full driving Licence and undertake the APIT Van Driver Assessment.

2. Drive a 30cwt vehicle and keep simple records relating to the current road traffic act.

3. To operate a hydraulic lifting machine.

4. The use of high pressure washing machine for cleaning of general waste trailers and vehicles and kitchen garden waste bins.

5. To operate an electronic mailing (franking) machine.

6. To use firefighting equipment within the hospital and to be able to operate (hold open) automatic doors during an emergency situation.

7. To operate moving and handing equipment.
