Job summary

This role within our Spinal Surgery Team is intended for a surgeon working at the equivalent of ST3-5 and will allow the appointed doctor to gain further experience in an orthopaedic setting along with providing an environment to increase publications.

This is not an approved HEE training post however training and education provision will be provided with an Educational and Clinical Supervisor.

Main duties of the job

Weekly clinical duties will include care of the orthopaedic in-patients on the ward, first surgical assistant support in Theatres, and out-patient clinics.

On normal working days, the allocation of regular commitments will be aligned to Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon's timetables. The post holder will be required to participate in the duty rota for the Orthopaedic Specialist Registrars, which includes the following full shifts on rotation with their colleagues

The postholder will have access to portfolio with a named educational and clinical supervisor to monitor and deliver the educational component of the job. They will also maintain an up-to-date logbook and perform satisfactory number of workplace-based assessments. They will have access to the daily teaching sessions at Oswestry along with a very well-structured, protected Friday afternoon regional teaching sessions. Apart from the teaching the postholder will receive supervised training in theatre, wards, and outpatient aspects of patient care. The education contract will be monitored by the Educational Supervisor in quarterly progress meetings.
